Pam joined the Clinical Pharmacology
department following over ten years experience as a clinical and drug
information pharmacist in the UK. She now coordinates the activities of
the drug information service. Pam has been awarded a Post Graduate
Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy from Keele University (UK) and a Post
Graduate Certificate in Medical Informatics from the Royal College of
Surgeons (Edinburgh, UK). Her areas of special interest include drug
safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding, and the application of
information technology to health related issues. |
Judy joined the Drug Information
Service after ten years of pharmacist experience ranging from community
pharmacy to private and public hospital practice. She has been awarded
the Post Graduate Diploma of Clinical Pharmacy from the Monash
University and Masters of Clinical Pharmacy from Otago University. Her main areas of interest
are adverse
drug reactions, patient information leaflets, transfer of drugs into
breastmilk and methotrexate pharmacokinetics. |

Tracey has joined the Clinical Pharmacology
department as a Drug Information Pharmacist after seven years of working
in clinical pharmacy. She has worked in England and the Republic of
Ireland for four years, spending two years as a Haematology/Oncology
pharmacist. Tracey has completed two postgraduate papers and is
currently working towards a Post-Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy. |
Kathryn joined the Clinical
Pharmacology department as a Drug Information Pharmacist with over 10
years experience in medical information within the pharmaceutical
industry in Australia and New Zealand. Her other roles have included
regulatory affairs, medical affairs and clinical research. Prior to
entering the pharmaceutical industry, Kathryn worked for several years
as clinical hospital pharmacist in various New Zealand and English
hospitals. She recently completed a Masters of Public Health
through Monash University (Melbourne, Australia). |

Melanie is employed as a part time Drug Information pharmacist. She has joined the department after 16 years experience working in the UK as a pharmacist in both hospital (clinical pharmacy and drug information) and community practice. Her postgraduate Masters in Clinical Pharmacy at Strathclyde University (Glasgow, UK) included a thesis investigating the economics of bisphosphonate use in steroid-induced osteoporosis. As a hospital clinical pharmacist she developed an interest in Medicine for the Elderly, particularly Parkinson’s disease. Over the last 6 years she has worked in a medicines information centre in a UK public hospital.

Evan Begg is a Clinical Pharmacologist and is
head of the Department. He co-ordinates the teaching of Clinical
Pharmacology for University of Otago - Christchurch. His research
interests include drugs in pregnancy and lactation, antibiotic
dosing regimens and pharmacogenetics and dosing in the elderly. He
is the author of ‘Instant Clinical Pharmacology Essentials’. His MD
thesis is entitled ‘An evolution in aminoglycoside dosing
strategies’.

Associate Professor
Murray Barclay is a Clinical Pharmacologist half-time, a
Gastroenterologist half-time, and Clinical Associate Professor with the
University of Otago. His research interests include inflammatory bowel
disease genetics and pharmacogenetics, medicines in gastroenterology,
and drug concentration monitoring. He runs clinical trials of new
medicines in gastroenterology and has an interest in web-based
interactive teaching in medicine. |

Dr Paul Chin is employed as a full-time Clinical Pharmacology registrar. He is
an advanced trainee in General Medicine. He works in Drug Information one
morning a week and is part of the team that provides the drug concentration

Petra is the personal assistant to Professor Evan Begg as well as
departmental secretary. Her work includes editorial assistance to the
Australasian editor of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology,
secretarial/computer-based support for the Preferred Medicines List and
maintaining the department's internal website for Canterbury District
Health Board. She is currently studying part-time for a Diploma in
Management. |
